Services for Students

When and how do I register with the Career Services Office?
A member of the Career Services staff will visit your Career Development class with the materials needed for registration. Our representative will go over each step of the registration process carefully, and collect the completed materials. By completing the materials, you will have successfully registered to use our services. If you are in your final semester and have not registered please come to the Career Services Office IMMEDIATELY!

What does the Career Services Office really do?
We act as the main link between job-seeking students and companies with employment needs. Members of our staff attend to several tasks including, but not limited to; teaching career services classes, conducting mock interviews, organizing career fairs, acting as career advisors, and arranging both on and off campus interviewing activities. We look forward to working with you!

What if I need help writing my resume?
The Career Services staff works together with the Career Development faculty to provide resume workshops. These workshops take place during your Career Development class. You will talk to several individuals who will offer advice on every topic from content to format. In addition, various company representatives will be invited to various CARD classes to offer feedback on resumes. Of course, additional needs and questions can be addressed by your Career Advisor.

Can you help me find a part-time job or co-op?
The Career Services Office focuses on post-graduate, permanent job assistance. However, the Student Services Office provides both co-op and part-time job assistance. For co-op questions contact Charlotte Allison. You must maintain a minimum 2.5 to be eligible for the Co-op Program.

When is the Career Fair, and who can attend?
Our office hosts three Career Fairs a year, one in February, one in April, and one in September. We recommend that students from all programs attend these career fairs. It never too early to begin researching opportunities in your field!

Can your office help me when I need to mail, fax or call a company?
Yes, we have phones and a fax machine that students may use for job search related activities ONLY! Also, we reserve the right to monitor calls to insure that they are for job search purposes only.

Can you help me find a job if I want to relocate after graduation?
Yes, our database contains companies from all over the country. In addition, our office will help you pin-point a specific geographic area. Pin-pointing is our way of researching the job market in a particular region. It is helpful if you can provide a newspaper or phone book from the city that you plan to move to. During your final trimester, you will be given the opportunity to schedule a meeting with a Career Services staff member to discuss your geographical needs.
